New York, October 22, 2026 - A ceremony to raise the national flag of the Republic of Kazakhstan took place in the heart of the Wall Street district ahead of Kazakhstan’s Republic Day.
Participants included Renat Bekturov, Governor of the Astana International Financial Centre; Mark McGovern, Director of the New York Regional Office of the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Foreign Missions; and Vladimir Božović, President of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York and Consul General of Serbia. Diplomats and representatives of the Kazakh diaspora and the business community also attended.
Rauan Tleulin, Consul General of Kazakhstan, and the guests of honor delivered remarks to mark Republic Day. Tilekshi Amangeldiyeva addressed the gathering on behalf of the Kazakh diaspora.
The ceremony culminated in the raising of the national flags of Kazakhstan and the United States as the two countries’ national anthems were performed. Singer Sangina performed the U.S. national anthem, and Kazakhconcert soloists Meruert Zheldibayeva and Erbol Tazhibayev performed Kazakhstan’s national anthem.
The annual ceremony brings together the diplomatic community, Kazakh compatriots, and members of the American public. It introduces New Yorkers and visitors to Kazakhstan’s culture and traditions.
